QLD - BECOMING DRY AND GUSTY ON SATURDAY AFTER PATCHY RAIN CLEARS TONIGHT.

There were some nice light rainfall totals for some over the southern inland of QLD as the tip of a trough moved through today, the cloud is clearing eastwards, the air is drying and modifying. This sets the stage for a very different looking day Saturday.

That will be thanks to a cold front which is moving through at pace over the southeast during tomorrow. That will send the eastern areas into a gale with damaging winds further south.

Higher wind chill and temperatures moving below average will bring a low risk to stock which are not used to these conditions, the risk eases during Sunday.

There is next to no rainfall for the coming week, BUT we were talking about the pattern flip possibly coming up in the medium term.

Let's review the data tonight.

00Z GFS Surface Pressure Pattern for the coming 16 days

The pattern is drying out tonight with the low and trough moving off the east coast. A surge of dry air is coming in from the west and that will set a sunny and cool windy weekend for the south, but mild to warm and hot the further north you travel. GFS had rainfall developing in the second week of it's outlook earlier today but has dropped it, but I fully expect there to be more guidance on that shift in the pattern in the coming days and rainfall chances to return to the charts as we go through next week.

00z Euro Surface Pressure Pattern for the coming 10 days

The Euro is more interesting tonight and has adopted the GFS approach for later in the sequence. There is a chance of inland rainfall developing in response to an upper trough interacting with moisture drawn in from the Indian Ocean. This will see rainfall break out over SA into NSW and then lift north and east along the boundary. Now this is one run and like I said the other models have been increasing inland rainfall, so there is something to watch in the medium term. The take away is, dry for the coming 7-10 days for QLD.

00z Euro Rainfall for the coming 10 days

The rainfall spread illustrates that rainfall building to our west at the end of the run, which is encouraging to see. This will chop and change, come and go, which is normal, so again something to watch if you are hanging out for rainfall.

Rainfall for the next 10 days.

Not much to look at yet but there will be more paint across the chart in the coming week, the moisture likely to increase along the jet stream and be shifted north as an upper trough and long wave approach the southeast. But for now, just dry and cold in the south, hot and sunny up north.

More weather on Saturday.
