I will have more on this during the afternoon updates, but we are looking at significant rainfall emerging, finally in the days ahead over northern Australia (have been yarning about this for 2 weeks now) and this will dictate the weather pattern for the north and east over the course of the week ahead.
Anomalous rainfall happens from time to time through July in the north, but if this verifies, this would be about a 1/25 year event for the northern areas and 1/15 year event for inland QLD.
Let's have a look at the latest forecast in terms of rainfall for the region and further analysis to follow tonight.
Rainfall Next 10 Days
Rainfall is expected to develop through Monday night into Tuesday over the NT before spreading eastwards with an upper trough that will deepen and draw large amounts of moisture from the northern waters with the trough sharpening ahead of cold air surging north mid-week, widespread rain with moderate to heavy falls developing for Central and Eastern QLD with some locations seeing 3-4 months' worth of rainfall out of this event. The rainfall will peak over QLD Thursday through Friday before clearing over the weekend, but some of this rainfall will continue along the coast in onshore winds and further rain over interior parts of QLD in particular cannot be ruled out.
More to come this afternoon.
